2012 4th Round Draft Pick |
The New Jersey Devils have opened some cap space on Tuesday evening, sending centre David Steckel to the Toronto Maple Leafs for a 4th round draft pick next Summer.
Steckel was a late-season addition by the Devils in 2011, acquiring him from the Capitals at the trade deadline for Jason Arnott, and didn't really add much to the Devils down the stretch. Steckel is considered to be more of a bottom six depth centre, but with some more depth at New Jersey's training camp this Fall, Steckel was made to be expendable
The Maple Leafs have needed some more depth down the middle and Steckel should be able to give that to them, especially since Tim Connolly is not likely going to start the season in the line-up.
