Closing in on the deadline to sign top 2011 draft picks was approaching, if teams wanted to consider their prized possessions to play in the 2012 season. The Winnipeg Jets are one of those teams, as their 1st round pick this Summer, Mark Scheifele, the 7th overall pick, has impressed all the right people in training camp and preseason play, that they have given him his 3-year entry-level deal on Monday morning.
The deal is reportedly carrying an entry-level cap hit of $1.625 million, which includes all of his potential bonuses for the season and could very well be re-adjusted upon what happens in the 2012 season.
After watching some of the Jets preseason action with Scheifele in the line-up, I would project him to do quite well, if he can play the entire season with the club. I could see him hit as many as 40 points, with the possibility of a bigger swing, especially if he can get comfortable among regular season opponents. He could end up to be quite the keeper as well, going forward.
