The New York Rangers continued their tour in Europe as they prepare for their opening games in the NHL Premiere series in Stockholm against the Los Angeles Kings. On Monday, they were in Switzerland playing club team EV Zug and forward Wojtek Wolski was not in the line-up, nursing a groin injury at the moment. Wolski is currently listed as out day-to-day, which poses some doubt upon his participation in the opening game on Thursday.
Wolski belongs to Dale C. in the draft, who already has a number of injury prone players on his side. Having Wolski out for game one of the season won't likely help his cause and is the sort of thing that can really put a damper on a pool season, if other members of your team start to fall off as well.
Word came down on Monday afternoon that there was a death in Alex Ovechkin's family, to which the All-Star winger will have to go home to Moscow to attend the funeral this week. The understanding is that Ovechkin will practice on Tuesday before heading back to Russia for the funeral, which will make his participation in Saturday's season opener a little sketchy, mostly due to jet lag and such.
This is a minor concern for Ryan M. in the pool, as there doesn't seem to be much doubt that he'll be able to play on Saturday, rather if he does play, it could be worth giving one of those dedicated efforts to his fallen family member, giving everyone a good show.
