I'm not sure too many people would have penciled defenseman Cody Franson in as the Maple Leafs' seventh defenseman, but indeed, that was the case on Thursday night, as Toronto opened up their season at home against the Canadiens. Franson was a healthy scratch, as rookie Jake Gardiner was placed into the top six for the game. With the win, the Leafs won't likely be making any drastic changes to their line-up, so this might be a regular occurrence for the team early on.
Franson belongs to Clayton C., who was one of 15 teams to record at least a point on opening night, but missing out on a man game to a healthy scratch is not a great start to the season.
