It looks like Ryan Whitney is gonna head back on the shelf for a little while, as the offensive rearguard got caught up with a teammate in Tuesday night's win against the Canucks. Whitney suffered a knee injury in the game and he is definitely going to miss Thursday night's game against the Capitals and there are some suggestions that Whitney could miss upwards of two weeks.
Whitney only returned from off-season ankle surgery last week and he did manage to appear in four games with the Oilers, but failed to register a point in those four games. If he is going to miss up two weeks, he could be out another four games at the very least.
Chris M. took the risk of picking Whitney in the draft this year, which was definitely high-risk and theoretically, high-reward, although he hasn't seen those rewards in the early action. At the time of this injury, Chris sits in 16th spot with 54 points, now 20 points out of 3rd place and with only 4 points through two nights of action, he is closer to the bottom of the heap in weekly numbers than the top, so things have not looked good for him.
Injury troubles have already cost Chris this season, as he ranks last in number of games played by his skaters with only 71 appearances through Tuesday night, thankfully his goaltending minutes are in the middle of the pack, which is keeping his head above the basement. Tops in the pool in games played by skaters... Dale B. currently has seen 97 skater appearances to date.
