It should come as no surprise that the Penguins have placed Sidney Crosby on the injured reserve to start the regular season, especially after saying that he will not be dressing for the team on opening night, which goes on Thursday in Vancouver against the Canucks. With his placement on the Injured Reserve, he will have to miss at least a week's worth of action, as there was no retroactive date placed on this assignment.
This was certainly the risk that was known when drafting Crosby, as the duo of Kristy & Don made the move to pick Crosby 14th overall in the pool this year. Obviously, the sooner he is able to return to the Penguins line-up, the better it will be for the duo, but the longer he sits, the better the rest of the picks in the opening round look.
