Procedure Done on Kovalchuk's Ankle
It looks like the infection that was bothering Ilya Kovalchuk was something a little bit more serious than just your run of the mill infection, the veteran forward was dealing with bursitis in his ankle and he underwent a procedure on Sunday to removed the inflamed areas and get him to go pain free moving forward.
The Los Angeles Kings forward is now expected to miss the next four weeks to allow his ankle to heal properly from the procedure, which will open the door for some youth to possibly get injected into this offense.
The 35-year old hasn't exactly been stellar on his return to the NHL, 5 goals and 14 points in 25 games, still good enough for 191st in the scoring rankings, ahead of Sunday's action. Nevertheless, the expectations for the player and the team were so much higher.
This will allow Derek B. to make one more move in the bonus round, as he has already taken full advantage of the Waiver Draft to this point. He has been loading up on the rookies in his picks, trying to win back some money and his 23rd place team may only be good for that sort of thing now, so who can blame him?
