The news doesn't get much easier to swallow for the Avalanche this week. It seems to get worse before it gets better, which isn't great news as the Rangers are looking to redeem themselves after getting run over in Minnesota the night before.
Captain Joe Sakic (Dennis) has reportedly suffered a relapse in his recovery from a groin injury. This isn't good news for Dennis, as it now could be more weeks than days before he returns to the line-up. Sakic has already missed the last 10 games for the Avalanche, but it would be tough to tell when you look at their record since he's been out. The Avs are 6-3-1 in their last 10, so they certainly are not rushing their captain back into the fray.
Ryan Smyth (Dennis) is also now listed as doubtful for tonight's game against the Rangers, as his sore neck has not gotten any better overnight. He will go see a specialist today and the reports are that it is unlikely that the winger will suit up for the game.
