It also looked like Don was onto something when he dumped Mark Recchi (Box 15) in the Waiver Draft. The 39 year-old veteran signed a 1-year deal worth $1.75 million in the offseason, but has yet to make his contribution to the team, that is worth that much. Teams have until tomorrow to claim him for full price and I would imagine that the club may put him through re-entry waivers to see if anyone claims him at half-price.
He managed 68 points last season, but has only drummed up 8 in 19 games. The Penguins have opened up some spots for some other players and they seem to be fitting in with the pace a whole lot better.
I'm sure the hockey community would like to see him leave on a high, but his NHL career could be fading much quicker than expected this season.
