Officially announced on Monday afternoon, the Boston Bruins have shut down centre Marc Savard for the remainder of the season after suffering yet another concussion. Savard was injured again a couple of weeks ago, when he was hit into the boards with his head hitting the glass and with the number of concussions already, it was wise by the team and the doctors to shut him down, trying to find a way to get Savard back to 100% and get him back on the ice again.
Retroactive to the actual injury, Savard has been placed on the Long Term Injury Reserve with the expectation that he will not see the ice for the remainder of the regular season and the playoffs.
Savard still has six seasons left on his current deal, which carries an annual cap hit of $4.2 million per season.
In the pools, Savard was dropped in the draft by Larry D., who waited on him for the better part of the season, but since the concussion problems have persisted, it was a fine time to make a clean break. Savard is still a part of the selection sheet pool and should be dropped, if someone still has him on their team.
