Jaroslav Halak wasn't able to practice on Friday morning, due to a minor upper-body injury and it ended up costing him a start on Friday night, as the Blues took on the Oilers. The injury has been reported to be minor, but there is not yet word on whether or not it will keep Halak out of Sunday's matinee contest against the Lightning. For now, we'll consider him day-to-day, but an extra day's rest during an afternoon game (something historically unhealthy for starting goalies) might be a good thing.
At the beginning of the season, Halak was just flying up the pool scoring charts with wins left, right and centre. The Blues have since cooled off, falling well out of the Western Conference playoff race and Halak's numbers have suffered somewhat along with the team. Halak has made 39 appearances in the Blues net this season, picking up a record of 17-16-5, with 4 shutouts, giving him 42 points this season, good enough for 53rd in pool scoring. After splitting time in Montreal in 2010, this is actually a step up for him, in terms of his pool numbers, but only slightly.
In the draft, Neil B. picked Halak 36th overall, in the 2nd round, which isn't too far off of where he is ranked, so it still is a pretty decent pick. At the beginning of the season, Halak was making Neil look like a genius, heading up to the top of the table before too long. Neil did spend some time in the money spots in the first month of the season, but has long since dropped off, now sitting in 16th position, going into Saturday's games.
