Reports on Wednesday morning were suggesting that Coyotes defenseman Ed Jovanovski suffered an upper-body injury in Tuesday night's game against the Sharks, which forced the veteran out of the line-up for the 6-0 loss to the Canucks the very next night. Jovanovski is listed as out day-to-day with the upper-body injury, but that's as far as any post as gone in the past 24 hours.
The Coyotes host the Wild on Saturday for their next game and Jovanovski is likely questionable to make his return then, until otherwise noted.
Jovanovski has had an okay season in the desert, thus far in 2011, but it has been far from where his numbers have been in previous years. In 44 games with the Coyotes, Jovanovski has 5 goals and 9 assists, well down from his 0.5 points-per-game pace he hovers around from year to year. It hasn't been the same kind of offensive system in Phoenix this year, which has led to fewer goals, but the team has played well as a whole, which is the more important part to them (not us poolies though).
Needless to say then, Jovanovski has been a bit of a disappointment to Neil, having only 14 points in 44 games, ranking 3rd among his active defense at the moment. Neil has really fallen off the pace in recent weeks, dropping down to 16th from 6th in Week Ten, all because of a number of injuries of late. Neil will likely only be looking to try and win one of the jersey prizes, if anything this year, but he'll need a couple good waiver draft picks and a hell of a stretch run from his active players.
