The Anaheim Ducks will give their number one goalie a break on the weekend, as they have called up Timo Pielmeier from the AHL to back up Curtis McElhinney against the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday night. Jonas Hiller has been suffering from some fatigue and light-headedness this week and that's a fine sign to start giving players a rest. There is no official word as to whether or not Hiller will miss more than one game, but I'm sure the team is just taking his situation one game at a time.
Hiller has been rock-solid for the Ducks in the 2011 season, leading the league with 47 appearances this season, picking up a record of 25-16-3 with 4 shutouts and 1 assist for 59 points in the pool this year. His 25 wins are tied for 1st in the league, while being 10th in pool scoring, 4th among all goalies. He has certainly earned that 4-year extension that he signed about this time last year and is making his cap hit ($4.5 million) look like a bargain.
Not a good time for Hiller to go down though, as Kristy and Don are not only fighting for the lead in the overall standings, they have a 7-point lead going into the final weekend of the second segment for a jersey prize. They are currently being chased down by Don D. and losing out on a Hiller start This might make for a much closer race this weekend.
