The Hurricanes are the top team in the Southeast Division, but that doesn't seem to be good enough to keep everything as the status quo in Carolina. Even though the Hurricanes lead their division by 3 points over Atlanta and are 2 games above .500, they actually have a negative goals for & against ratio, which has a few fingers pointed at the goaltending.
Saying that, back-up John Grahame (Box 24) has been the guy who is fielding much of the blame. Grahame has appeared in 13 games and has only registered 4 wins. His goals against average is up near 4 and is save percentage only sits at .875. The Hurricanes have been fortunate that they can score as many goals as they give or more, so the panic really hasn't set in.
There must have been some sort of belief that Grahame would put pressure on the number one keeper, Cam Ward (Stuart) and make him a better goalie. That obviously hasn't been the case, so the Hurricanes will move to Michael Leighton (non-pool) for the time being, who has had 13 wins for the Albany River Rats in the AHL.
