I don't know where all these contracts are coming from, but there seem to be a great rush to sign here in these past few weeks. On Thursday, defenseman Brent Sopel (non-pool) was rewarded for his time on the ice with a new three year extension worth $7 million.
Sopel has actually been out of the line-up for the last 7 games with a broken finger and he's still expected to be out for another few. That seemingly won't stop the Blackhawk brass from locking him up for a little while. Certainly good news for the Sopel camp that has been bounced around the league over the last few years.
Sopel has 10 points in 33 games this season for the Blackhawks and is still available for the second Waiver Draft in February.
