More injury news to report and this one is a biggie. The Hurricanes are now without one of their top defensemen, as Joe Corvo suffered a deep laceration above his skate boot on his right leg during a collision with Washington's Karl Alzner, who's own skate was the instrument of the injury. Corvo had to undergo surgery to repair the laceration and the team now expects him to miss the next 8-to-12 weeks in recovery of the injury. That doesn't quite finish his season, but he won't be finishing with great numbers this year.
Corvo leaves the Hurricanes with four goals and eight assists in 27 games this season. Those are not quite the regular numbers you would come to expect from Corvo in any given season, but it is rather indicative of how the Hurricanes have done this season and the overall production that the team has received from some of their top players. Corvo is currently the scoring leader for all Carolina blueliners, which leaves them in terrible shape for the rest of the year and it could be a good time to start selling off assets to build for the 2011 season.
This is yet another injury for Chris in the Draft pool. He has suffered some of the worst luck in the sheer number of players injured, but he hasn't fallen off the map completely when it comes to skater games or goalie minutes. Sure, he's well into the bottom half, but he isn't last in either category. His hopes and dreams of moving up though are dashed even further though and there is little hope in rebuilding for next year. Actually, there is lots, since he'll be picking a brand new team in October.
On the Sheet, Corvo was in the top defenseman box in the Eastern Conference, which he was not popular in. No selections for him there.
