After the first period last night against the Canadiens, Jonas Gustavsson did not return to the ice to continue his marvelous play, up 2-0, due to an elevated heart rate. Gustavsson had his heart worked on during training camp and underwent surgery to help prevent it from happening again, but since it was up, the team decided to get him to hospital for precautionary reasons. He has flown back to Toronto and it doesn't seem likely that he'll be in uniform for the team's next game, Thursday in Columbus.
Gustavsson is a Draft pick of Clayton's this season, who has been falling down in the standings, needing as many minutes in the line-up as possible. The condition may not be major, but that'll be determined by a cardiologist either today or tomorrow.
Gustavsson was a gamble in Box 32, where there have been a number of people taking that chance. If there was a reason to drop Gustavsson, it would be more for the team in front of him, rather than his play.
