It appears that Joffrey Lupul's current leg injury was the result of a previous back injury, which hasn't healed yet. It turns out that Lupul has a herniated disc in his back and will now undergo surgery to repair his back, which will now keep him out of the line-up for 6-to-8 weeks. A harsh blow to a forward that has enjoyed some success on the team's top line.
In the 23 games with the Ducks, Lupul has 10 goals and 4 assists, which on the outside doesn't look too great, but in his three games from reappearing in the line-up, he had four goals and was a +4. Lupul will now suffer a pretty poor pool ranking at the end of the year. In 2009, he finished at 126th, which is pretty decent, but going into this long-term injury, he's already ranked 230th.
This injury should be grounds for an immediate removal from your pool team or active line-up, if at all possible.
Lupul was a 12th round pick for John B. in the pool, but he'll have to wait another month before he is able to actually move him out of his line-up. That probably won't make too much of a difference, except in the race for last place. John had moved up to 15th, only 3 points behind 14th, but that could change just as easily.
On the Sheet, Lupul was taken three times and should be considered for dropping right away. If you are to drop Lupul from Box 5, may I suggest Rene Bourque, Alex Burrows or Steve Sullivan?
