I thought I would provide an update on how the Team Canada Selection pool is looking, taking the 29 teams that have already entered and taking the numbers and forming the team. The 23-man roster below is the statistical favourites for the Men's Hockey team, as of 2pm MT on December 27th. There's very little surprise in the names on the list, but after listening to some of the conversation on CBC on Saturday night, there might be some curious selections among these 23.| Forwards | Defense | Goaltenders |
| Jarome Iginla | Chris Pronger | Martin Brodeur |
| Sidney Crosby | Scott Niedermayer | Roberto Luongo |
| Dany Heatley | Jay Bouwmeester | Marc-Andre Fleury |
| Joe Thornton | Duncan Keith | |
| Ryan Getzlaf | Dan Boyle | |
| Rick Nash | Shea Weber | |
| Patrick Marleau | Mike Green | |
| Corey Perry | ||
| Jonathan Toews | ||
| Martin St. Louis | ||
| Brendan Morrow | ||
| Mike Richards | ||
| Shane Doan |
As of now, there are only four players on the list that have an absolute backing for the tournament and they are Jarome Iginla, Sidney Crosby, Martin Brodeur and Roberto Luongo. All four appear on every team submitted thus far and all for good reason. There was a lot of split decisions which caused a number of players to miss the cut, including Vincent Lecavalier, Brad Richards, Eric Staal, Brent Seabrook, Robyn Regehr and Dion Phaneuf. They all appear on a reasonable number of selected teams, but none had enough to make the cut.
Do you want to submit the team above? Have a better idea than the other 29 entries? Give it a shot... it's free!
