Big Apple Bit by Injury Bug

There isn't much for good news for the New York Rangers these days, as they are now dealing with a rash of brand new injuries to some of their top players and this isn't necessarily the day-to-day types of stuff either.

The Rangers had their home opener against the Maple Leafs on Friday night and they were much closer to becoming a healthier team at the beginning of the game, with Chris Drury returning to the line-up after dealing with a broken finger.  Instead, Drury ended up re-injuring his finger, suffering another break, Marian Gaborik suffered a separated shoulder and Vaclav Prospal, who is already on the shelf, will be on there much longer, as the team and player have opted for surgery.

Drury is now expected to miss upwards of six weeks with a re-broken finger, this after only getting into the line-up for the first time this season.  Not very good news for the Rangers' captain to start the year.

Gaborik is expected to be on the shelf for 2-to-3 weeks with his shoulder injury, but is starting a platelet rich plasma treatment next week and that is supposed to help speed up his recovery.  In the first three games of the year, Gaborik only has 2 assists to his name.

Prospal, who has yet to suit up for the Rangers, will not be expected back into the line-up anytime soon after his knee surgery, although a real time table has yet to be announced.

ImplicationsIn the draft, Gaborik has to be considered the biggest loss in this post, as he was the only one of the three players in this post actually playing for the Rangers and was taken in the draft going into Friday night's game.  Gaborik will be missed from Stuart's 16th place team, who really hadn't seen many of the big benefits of having a player like Gaborik on his team to begin with.  Prospal was also taken in the draft by Clayton, but he hasn't seen anything from the Czech forward yet, so it's hard to say that he is going to be missed anymore than he already is.  Drury, on the other hand, was not taken in the draft and can only be found on the selection sheet.  Hopefully, you didn't pick him this year.
