With the return of Roman Hamrlik to the Canadiens line-up on Thursday night, there had to be a body squeezed out of the line-up and unfortunately for the selection sheet, that player was Box 29 defenseman Alexandre Picard. Picard has been figured as the odd-man out and if there isn't any more injury concerns in the coming days, I would worry about him getting sent down to the minors. Until that happens, we'll likely be seeing him as a healthy scratch.
More injury news for the New Jersey Devils, as their cap issues start to get solved with the placements on the Long Term Injury Reserve. The new name on the list is Box 30 defenseman Mark Fraser, who suffered a fractured hand and had to have pins surgically inserted to help fix the injury. He is expected out of the Devils line-up for 4-to-6 weeks. With both Fraser and Rolston on the LTIR, the Devils have called up more help and should be able to ice a full squad this weekend.
The Rangers have now sent Tim Kennedy down to the minors after only a few regular season games to their credit. Kennedy had cleared waivers before the season had started, but it looks like he hasn't made the cut with the big club at the moment, so the Box 23 forward will continue his season with the AHL affiliate for the Rangers, the Hartford Wolf Pack.
A couple of injuries to point out for the Pittsburgh Penguins as they were without both Mike Comrie and Zbynek Michalek on Thursday night against the Maple Leafs. Comrie, a Box 23 forward, was out of the line-up because of some unconfirmed reports that he was a healthy scratch. Michalek, a Box 30 defenseman, is now listed as being out of the line-up for 2-to-4 weeks with a shoulder injury, which is pretty bad news for the Penguins.
A minor lower-body injury kept Capitals rookie Marcus Johansson out of the line-up on Thursday night. It is my understanding that Johansson has been skating, but just because he wasn't 100%, he was held out of the line-up against the Islanders. I would be expecting to see the Box 25 forward to return to the line-up sooner rather than later.
