Not a great start to the season roster-wise for the Ottawa Senators, because they opened up their 2011 season without their number one centre, Jason Spezza, who is nursing a groin pull. Spezza was reportedly hurt in training camp and didn't see much action in the preseason. He missed Friday night's opener against the Buffalo Sabres and will next the team's next game, Saturday night in Toronto.
Spezza is considered day-to-day with this injury at the moment.
In the draft, Spezza belongs to the 14th place (going into Saturday's action) John P. and now isn't the best time to be without your 3rd round pick. No team wants to fall behind too early in the game. In past years, we have seen it as a very hard thing to do, coming back from well behind.
On the sheet, you will find Spezza in Box 18, a very high-powered box as it is, so you had better be sure that Spezza is going to have a bounce back year before picking him, because there will be several options that may suit the need to win a little bit better.
