It was kind of a surprise to see Nikolai Antropov among the scratches for the Atlanta Thrashers on Saturday night, as they took on the Washington Capitals, but there his name was and he wasn't in the line-up. I cannot find any official word as to why he wasn't in the line-up, so I have to assume that he was a scratch from the game.
Antropov has not been the dominant player that the Thrashers have needed him to be to start the 2011 campaign, as he only has 1 assist in the first seven games of the season. He has definitely been overshadowed by some of the new faces to the club and that might not be sitting well with himself or the coaching staff. That should be reason enough to sit him for a game, so I won't consider it too surprising, but there you have it.
Antropov belongs to the draft's resident 20th place team, Derek W.'s squad, who took the cold-scoring Russian in the 6th round, 102nd overall. Antropov did finish the 2010 season with 67 points, but he was drafted in a round that didn't have great numbers, suggesting that most people were expecting to see him drop off, especially with the departure of some key players in the last 6-to-8 months.
For Derek's sake, Antropov better return with a new outlook in a hurry or it might be a long year for both draft team and player.
