Just before the Boston Bruins open up their season in Prague on Friday, they announced that they re-signed forward Patrice Bergeron to a new contract extension. The extension is said to be a 3-year pact worth $15 million, which will begin after this 2011 season, when Bergeron was scheduled to become a restricted free agent.
In 2010, Bergeron picked up 19 goals and 33 assists in 73 games with the Bruins and he is considered to be one of the most integral pieces of the Bruins team going into the start of the 2011 season. Bergeron also played an important role in Team Canada's gold medal win in the Olympics last Spring, which has definitely helped out his resume as well.
Bergeron was picked in the 9th round of the hockey pool draft, 170th overall by Stuart. That could definitely turn out to be one hell of a bargain pick by the end of the year.
