With the San Jose Sharks already carrying Antti Niemi and Antero Niittymaki on their active roster, the Sharks are forced to bite the bullet coming back from Stockholm by placing Thomas Greiss on waivers for the purpose of sending him down to the minors on Sunday.
The German goalkeeper was touted during the Summer as a guy who was going to challenge for the starting job in San Jose, but with signings that worked against him, Greiss quickly fell down to 3rd on the depth charts. Saying that, there are going to be some eyes focused on Greiss being on waivers, watching and waiting to see if he gets picked up by anyone else.
Team names that are floating around the rumour mill on Sunday morning include the Nashville Predators and the Carolina Hurricanes, but I would say that the chances of Greiss actually getting claimed may only be 50/50.
Well, this really wouldn't be news, if Wes didn't pick Greiss in the draft, but this could be Greiss' chance to pull through the early press box time with the Sharks and find some ice with another club. I know that's what Wes is looking forward to, but we'll have to wait and see what happens in the next 24 hours, checking to see if anyone claims him.
