On Wednesday night, Marian Hossa collided with Kings forward Jarret Stoll and suffered an upper-body injury, which forced Hossa to miss the remainder of the game. On Thursday, it was announced that the upper-body was not of the serious variety, but Hossa is still expected to miss upwards of two weeks.
Hossa has gotten off to a very good start to the season, picking up 7 goals and 4 assists in the first 11 games of the year for Chicago, which has him ranked 17th in pool scoring after Thursday night's action. Hossa was in a pretty good race for the goal-scoring title early on in the year, but that will obviously come to a halt for the time being with this injury.
Two weeks on the shelf will likely cost Hossa upwards of 10 games, but that is on the very high-end, if the injury just overlaps the two weeks initially diagnosed. Six or seven games is likely the next best bet, which still means some points lost at a point-per-game rate.
In the draft, Hossa has been a huge part of Allan's early success, as he's sitting on top of the standings. Allan finished up Thursday night with a 1-point lead over Benson, but the loss of Hossa will likely put that into jeopardy. Allan does have a 7-point lead over Neil, who sits in 3rd spot, so there's a pretty good likelihood that Allan should finish the week in the top two. Nevertheless, this injury will likely be a bit of a setback for our current pool leader.
