The Red Wings didn't have their number one goalie Jimmy Howard dressed for their game against the Phoenix Coyotes on Thursday night, as he's dealing with back spasms, much like his teammate Jonathan Ericsson. The back spasms are not considered to be serious in nature, so he'll remain on the list as out day-to-day for now.
Howard has played well so far this season for the Red Wings, starting five games for the team and amassing a 4-0-1 record with 1 shutout, racking up 10 points in the pool. After Thursday night's action, I have Howard ranked 36th in the league in pool scoring, 9th among goalies.
I can't see Howard missing out on too many starts with this ailment and the Red Wings were likely to rest Howard more often than some other teams and their number one goalies, so this shouldn't be out of the ordinary.
Howard belongs to Dale B. in the draft and he currently sits in 14th place in the standings, already 25 points back of 1st place. Missing out on Howard starts is likely going to hurt Dale in this next stretch, especially with the rate of getting points he's been working at. Howard currently ranks 5th in pool scoring with a point scoring rate of 1.95 points per 60 minutes played.
