An announcement from the Washington Capitals before their game against the Ottawa Senators on Monday night said that Tom Poti has been scratched and is currently day-to-day. What I'll be taking from this is that Poti likely has an injury of some sort, but it should be considered minor for the time being. I would imagine that Poti should be back skating before their next game, Wednesday at home to the Islanders, and will likely be a game-time decision then.
In two games so far this season, Poti has not registered a point, but is a +1 on the team, playing about 19 minutes in each of his first two games. I would have to believe that the offense is really just around the corner for him.
This is another injury for Neil's draft team, the second one of note on Tuesday, the first being Daniel Alfredsson's in Ottawa. This injury to Poti does not sound too serious and since he is only a defenseman, there shouldn't be a big reliance on his points to begin with, except for the projected 30-40 points he was likely picked for. If this injury is indeed minor, it should only prove to be a minor hiccup in reaching those projected goals.
