The Colorado Avalanche are holding their breath awaiting the news of what kind of damage has occurred to the knee of their number one goalie, Craig Anderson.
Anderson reportedly hurt his knee when he finished warm-ups on Tuesday night prior to the game against the Canucks, a game he wasn't scheduled to start. Anderson has left the team to fly back to Denver, while the team continues on to Calgary to continue a road trip.
Already in the 2011 season, Anderson has made seven starts for the Avalanche, amassing a record of 3-4-0 for 6 points in the pool this year. That was good enough to start Week Four in 112th in pool rankings, 17th among goalies. If the news is as bad as some have speculated already, Anderson may drop quite a ways down in the rankings, because of time missed.
I would expect to see or hear something about Anderson's condition before the Avalanche's game on Thursday night.
Obviously, we can't gauge how bad the implications will be on Benson's draft team until the extent of the injury is known, but Benson has made it up to the top of the standings because he has had a healthy team for the start of the season. Anderson was Benson's 2nd round pick, 34th overall, which is a heavily relied upon position in the draft. I would imagine that he will hold his breath, hoping for the best as well.
