Box 28 defenseman Johnny Boychuk was forced to leave Saturday night's contest between the Bruins and Rangers after he took a slash to the wrist from Brandon Dubinsky in the 1st period. Boychuk left the game and didn't return and there has yet to be an update, but he could be missing some significant time to this injury, if it is at all serious. He'll be listed as day-to-day until any further news comes down the pipe.
Another Box 28 defenseman failed to jump into their team's line-up on Saturday night, as Craig Rivet sat out for the Sabres, as they took on the New Jersey Devils. Rivet has aggravated a shoulder injury, which he had surgically repaired in the off-season, but the initial reports are suggesting that he won't miss much time with the injury. This looks to be more of an inconvenience than anything else.
The Blackhawks are looking to Tomas Kopecky to help replace Dustin Byfuglien's presence in the their line-up last season and for the start of the year, he's done a pretty good job. Unfortunately, the Box 7 forward picked up an upper-body injury on Friday night, which caused him to miss Saturday night's game and will remain out day-to-day. If this injury is not serious, he could definitely be a player worth picking up for the pool, since he is playing with Marian Hossa and Jonathan Toews.
It appears that the fit that Dustin Boyd appeared to be with the Montreal Canadiens may have been a little too early to judge, as the Box 23 forward has found his way up to the press box on Saturday night, when the Canadiens took on the Senators. Boyd only has one goal in six games for the Canadiens and he should be one of those guys that floats between the 2nd and 3rd lines. Hopefully a scratch sorts him out or else he may be looking for new work this season.
It doesn't look like Box 7 forward Sergei Kostitsyn has endeared himself to the coaching staff in Nashville in the early part of the season, as he has found his way up to the press box yet again. I am beginning to think the amount of time that Kostitsyn has left in the NHL is beginning to dry up, especially with zero points in four games played this year.
A mild hip flexor injury has sidelined Box 25 forward Marcus Johansson of the Capitals, forcing him to miss the team's game against the Thrashers on Saturday night. Johansson has only one goal in six games for the Capitals in the early part of the season, playing 3rd line minutes for the club as well. The severity of the injury is still unknown, but we'll be listing him as day-to-day until otherwise noted.
