Prospal is the only one of the two players who is in the draft, listed in Clayton's team to start the year. Prospal was picked as Clayton's last forward in the 9th round, giving him some depth to his team, but he'll have to wait a couple of weeks before he can start cashing in.
Both Drury and Prospal are on the sheet and probably shouldn't be picked today, but could be viable options for when injuries strike during the year.
The injuries now leave the Rangers with a 23-man roster, which can be seen below.
Forwards | Defense | Goalies |
Marian Gaborik | Michael Del Zotto | Henrik Lundqvist |
Vaclav Prospal | Marc Staal | Martin Biron |
Alexander Frolov | Dan Girardi
Brandon Dubinsky | Michal Rozsival
Ryan Callahan | Steve Eminger
Chris Drury | Matt Gilroy
Sean Avery | Mike Sauer | |
Ruslan Fedotenko | ||
Artem Anisimov | ||
Tim Kennedy | ||
Erik Christensen | ||
Todd White | ||
Brandon Prust | ||
Brian Boyle | ||
Derek Boogaard | ||
Derek Stepan |
The current 23-man roster projects an annual salary cap total of $50.6 million, thanks to the removal of Prospal and Drury from the list, but when assignments have to happen and putting the two veterans back in the list, that could put them over top of the projected cap ceiling, thanks to Drury's massive cap hit. Stay tuned for more happenings, if they relate to the cap.
I would be hard-pressed to believe that the Rangers have necessarily improved over the Summer with their moves and now with some health issues to open up the season, it may be a tough year for the boys in the blue shirts. A big year from Derek Stepan and Ruslan Fedotenko would go a long way to improving those odds of making the playoffs, but if you asked me right now, I think they may be on the outside looking in again.
