The Flyers are still awaiting official word, but it looks like Simon Gagne is going to be held out of the line-up for an indefinite period of time due to two small hernias in his groin. Currently, the Flyers website says that Gagne will be out of the line-up indefinitely, but a decision on surgery should come by tomorrow, which will likely determine the actual timeframe until Gagne's return.
Gagne hasn't been ripping up the score sheets much to start the season, only registering one goal and four assists in the first nine games of the season. He has taken a bit of a backseat to a few players on the stats page for the Flyers, including James Van Riemsdyk, the rookie forward for the Flyers, who has one goal and six assists in seven games. He could be a very good replacement, if you are looking for a Flyers player to use in Gagne's stead.
This is not good news for the Draft leader, Wes, who is holding onto a 2-point lead going into Tuesday's action and will be doing so without Gagne, as the Flyers invade the Verizon Center in Washington. Sure, Gagne hasn't done much to propel Wes to the top, but he certainly wouldn't hurt Wes if he was in the line-up. Wes has used his goaltending to really make the jump up to the top this year, getting 27 points from the two keepers, while ranking somewhere in the middle of the pack when it comes to forwards scoring.
Gagne was selected twice in Box 19 in the Eastern Conference forwards section, so it may be a good idea to jump ship here, as hernias are never healthy and the groin muscle is trouble all on it's own.
