Things are not quite going the way that the Maple Leafs had envisioned anything this season. Already five games into the new season and the Leafs are still without a win and now they are without their number one goalie and they will be scratching two of their veteran forwards in order to fit in a couple of their young rookies.
It appears that Vesa Toskala has suffered a knee injury in the Leafs' loss to the Rangers on Monday night, which will need an MRI to diagnose the severity of the injury. The Leafs have already called up James Reimer to back-up Joey MacDonald for tonight's contest against the Colorado Avalanche, since Jonas Gustavsson is still on the Injured Reserve for another few days.
As for the scratches, the expectation is that both Matt Stajan and Niklas Hagman will be the two forwards sitting out for this game, all to send a message to the rest of the team, that no one is safe.
Pool implications are weighed more heavily on the Toskala injury, but we don't know what they overall threat is until we know how long he is out for. Toskala was taken by Stuart in the Draft, but since he hasn't had a point yet, it won't be like he will be totally missed. Toskala has got ice-time potential, but he hasn't been able to use them to anyone's advantage. Of course, he was in the starting box for the Leafs on the Selection Sheet.
Only Stajan has Draft implications for his one game out of the line-up, John P. has him on his team this time around. Stajan is in Box 19 of the Sheet, while Hagman is in Box 22.
