It's one of the worst injuries for a goalie and J-S Giguere was not careful with his groin injury and now he is going to pay for it. Giguere will now be sitting for a few games, at least, with a recurring groin injury, which he aggravated on Saturday night against the Blue Jackets. There is no immediate timetable for Giguere's return, but no one should expect him back for a while, so his groin can get back to 100%.
Giguere has yet to register a win or any other point in 213 minutes of action (about 3+ games), which would be a leading reason to put Jonas Hiller back in the net in a full-time basis. Giguere was looking to split time in this condensed schedule that the NHL has for every team this year, but it will be a little while before Giguere will be able to compete for that number one job again.
This should give Justin Pogge another call up from the ECHL to back-up Hiller and likely get a start or two on back-to-back nights for the Ducks.
Giguere was a pretty good gamble to get his number one job back this season after a year where he fell to number two by the end of the year. If you picked him up, you likely picked him up late. Chris picked him in the 6th round of the Draft, 100th overall, which wasn't too late and it certainly isn't paying off after four weeks.
On the Sheet, Giguere was listed as the back-up for Hiller in Box 16, which made him a very attractive pick in that box. He was the highest pick back-up goalie with 22 selections, but is far from being the best goalie in that box. In fact, the best goalie on the Sheet is in that box, Craig Anderson of the Avalanche.
