NIGEL DAWES BUYOUT FROM CAPGEEK.COM
2010-2011: $141,667
2011-2012: $141,667
Well, there it is... Nigel Dawes has been bought out by the Calgary Flames to make just a little bit more room for their salary cap endeavours. The news dropped on Sunday that the Flames took advantage of Dawes clearing unconditional waivers and they have now saved themselves almost $700,000 in cap space for the rest of the Summer and into the season, for whatever that is worth.
With the buyout and eliminating Dawes from the team table, adding both Tim Jackman and Raitis Ivanans to the table following their signings, we now have a total for the players of $59.2 million for 21 players, which should be enough to go into the 2011 season. Of course, we have to figure in the buyout and with Dawes' number factored it, I have the Flames sitting at $59.34 million, just shy of the cap ceiling. Looks like there is going to be a lot of demotions and recalls between Calgary and Abbotsford this year.
