McDonagh Signs Entry-Level Deal

Another one of my one's to watch in 2011 signed his first deal with the Rangers on Tuesday, as Ryan McDonagh signed his 3-year entry-level deal, but no official bonus structure or cap hits have been disclosed as of Tuesday night.  McDonagh was acquired by the Rangers from Montreal in the deal that sent Scott Gomez the other way and was likely one of the keys to the deal getting done in the end.  The 2007 1st round pick of the Canadiens has reasonable size and seems to have a lot of facets to his game.  There is a good chance he'll still need to grow into the NHL, but the Rangers have been doing well with young defensemen, but keep putting veterans higher up on the depth chart.  It will be interesting to see if someone like McDonagh can break through.

One of the other defensemen to watch for the Rangers, Bobby Sanguinetti, was dealt to the Hurricanes for that exact reason of too much depth and very few holes to breakthrough into.
