The Nashville Predators have signed their Kostitsyn brother on Tuesday, giving Sergei Kostitsyn a 1-year deal worth $550,000. Kostitsyn was acquired by the Predators from the Canadiens, so Montreal could have a shot at signing Dan Ellis to a deal to back-up Carey Price, but that did not work out in their favour. Kostitsyn will be getting a new life in the NHL and a good chance at finally getting some regular ice-time, but all of that will be dictated by himself. It will be a tough go in Nashville, especially if he thought the coaching style was tough in Montreal. This could be the last kick at the can for him and for the price, it's not a bad gamble by Nashville.
Embattled in Montreal, Kostitsyn only managed 47 games, scoring 7 goals and adding 11 assists. That was only good for 283rd among forwards, ranking him outside the general picking area for my draft, but he could slip in as a sleeper, depending on how well he takes to the Predators' system. Risk versus reward... high risk for medium to low reward.
