It apepars that the Calgary Flames have decided to bring back Alex Tanguay into their fold with a new 1-year deal worth $1.7 million. Tanguay played two seasons in Calgary, the 2007 and 2008 seasons, and played fairly well, putting up some reasonable numbers before jumping ship to Montreal. The new deal will see him make a reasonable number against the cap and try and give some help to Jarome Iginla again.
With the Lightning in 2010, Tanguay did not have a great year, scoring only 10 goals and 27 assists in 80 games, relegated to some poor ice-time numbers by the end of the season and was likely just unhappy being there. A return to Calgary may perk those numbers back up to something a bit more respectable.
The Flames are filling up their roster quite well and there is still plenty of time left in this off-season for tinkering, so GM Darryl Sutter must have a concrete idea of where he is taking this team. After the Tanguay signing, I now have the Flames sitting at 19 players at $55.9 million against the cap.
