Time hasn't been to kind to me, in terms of the blog, so I've really got to pound some of these quick hits on here, just to keep the pace a bit. I'm really hoping by September, I've found my groove and I have time to get this thing going again at full steam. I'm hoping to have an August feature where I look at each team and what they've done going forward.
I'm going to start in Anaheim, where the Ducks have signed defenseman Danny Syvret to a new 1-year deal, worth $600,000. The Ducks are a tad shallow on the blueline at the moment, so a guy like Syvret might be able to make the blueline as a 5th or 6th guy, with room for advancement. Syvret only played in 21 games for the Flyers last season, so he won't qualify as a roster player just yet, but we'll see how he shapes up in camp.
Still a tad deep, but a roster player by qualification nonetheless; the Sabres have re-signed Patrick Kaleta to a 1-year deal worth $907,500 on Wednesday. Kaleta played in 55 games for the Sabres in 2010, scoring 10 goals and adding 5 assists, ranking him 304th among forwards. He has a little bit of potential, but he does have 3rd line winger written all over him.
Some good news for the Senators, they re-signed forward Nick Foligno to a new 2-year deal worth $2.4 million. Foligno has established himself as a good 2nd to 3rd line winger on the team, scoring 9 goals and 17 assists in 61 games for the Sens in 2010. Foligno should get a good shot at skating with some of the big boys on the team, which should help his projections, he could move up from the 332nd position he finished in 2010, maybe bumping himself back up to 272nd, where he finished in 2009.
The best player of the bunch of signings from Wednesday has to be David Perron of the Blues, who signed a new 2-year deal, worth $4.3 million. Perron has been growing into one of the Blues' best players over the past few seasons, having a very reasonable 2010 among a team that is still trying to find its identity. In 82 games, Perron scored 20 goals and added 27 assists, ranking him 144th in league scoring, 108th among forwards. He'll definitely be a good pick for the draft this year, as his potential should give him a few more points in the year.
