The Maple Leafs keep on with the theme of tough players to sign, as they added rugged winger Colby Armstrong to their mix, with a 3-year deal worth $9 million in total, a $3 million cap hit per season. The Leafs get a little bit of touch out of Armstrong as well, which might make him a 2nd line player in Toronto, but he would definitely suit better as a 3rd line player, but we'll see what the Leafs have in store for him.
In 2010 with the Thrashers, he had 29 points (15 goals and 14 assists) in 79 games, ranking him 204th among forwards in the league. He'll be a pretty good addition to the Leafs, especially with a good work ethic in general. He might do very well with another Leafs pick-up, Kris Versteeg.
The $3 million cap hit for Armstrong now brings the players total up to $52 million for 17 roster spots. That doesn't leave a great deal of cash for more depth players, but it isn't as bad as some other teams. This should be a solid move for sure.
