Skille Re-Signs With Chicago

According to CapGeek.com this morning, plus a couple of tweets yesterday suggesting the same, the Blackhawks have put pen to paper with Jack Skille to a new 1-year, one-way deal that will pay him $600,000 in 2011. Skille was the leading prospect according to the Hockey News' Future Watch for Chicago and now with the mass exodus of high paid talent, it will definitely be time for some of the young kids to step up and play in the big show in 2011.

In 2010, Skille appeared in 6 games for the Blackhawks, scoring a goal and adding an assist in those games, but the roster was full of good roster players, so Skille had to bide his time in the minors. Definitely accepting this deal is a step in the right direction, not signing himself outside of the team's budget and getting his chance to shine.

I am very close to adding Skille to the team's roster, despite only having played 6 games last season, but I think once we get closer to training camps, I think there will be a greater chance that he will be added on, especially for his budget cap hit. I don't think it will be his overall skill that places him in his final ranking going into the draft, rather who he will likely be playing with.
