The Rangers open up the free agent frenzy with the signing of Martin Biron to a new 2-year deal worth $875,000 per season. That should sort out the back-up goaltender situation well in the Big Apple. Henrik Lundqvist could really use some quality help and the Rangers could use it at a reasonable price and it looks like they got both in Biron.
In 2010, the Biron made 29 appearances with the Islanders, amassing a record of 9-14-4, with 1 shutout and 1 assist for 21 pool points. Biron ranked 46th among goalies in pool points, but might take a bit of a drop playing behind Lundqvist, but should pick up a better win-loss ratio with the Rangers, in theory.
