A huge hot streak, an honour from the league and a brand new contract makes for a pretty good start to the month of February for just about anyone, wouldn't you think?
J.P. Dumont (Benson) of the Nashville Predators scored at least a point in every game for the Nashville Predators in the month of January, which earned him the Second Star of the Month from the NHL. So far, so good, right? Well, the Predators decided to reward their top player of the last month with a brand new 4-year contract that's worth $16 million. That will make Dumont the 3rd highest paid player on the team behind both Jason Arnott (Marcus) and David Legwand (John P.) for next season.
The Predators now have 13 of the active roster signed on for next season at a rate of $27.5 milliion (approx.). The team has the 8th playoff spot in the West at the moment and have way too much cap room to work with, if they were actually buyers come the trade deadline. They could find themselves being a pretty high bidder for Peter Forsberg's (Wes) services, if he so wished to re-join the Predators.
