Blue Jackets Sign Umberger

On Monday, the Blue Jackets continued their upgrade for next season by signing their new acquisition from the Flyers, R.J. Umberger. Umberger, 26, signed a 4-year deal with the club and financial terms were not disclosed.

Umberger's 50 points last season will be a welcomed addition to the new line-up, which features five other new faces that were acquired by free agency and trades. The signing of Umberger should give them some versatility down the middle, but there could be some questions about his ability to be the number one guy in the pivot position. A line of Nash-Umberger-Huselius does sound like it could be formidable.

Without financial terms, there is no true understanding of how well the Blue Jackets are sitting when it comes to the cap, but a deal in the $4 to $5 million range would sort the team out when it comes to the salary cap floor. It's safe to say that the Blue Jackets won't be concerned about the floor after this signing.
