Lightning Give Smith Two More Years

A good keeper-league notice, Mike Smith signed a new 2-year contract extension with the Tampa Bay Lightning, financial terms not disclosed. Smith, acquired from Dallas at the trade deadline in February, has been subject of several trade rumours after the acquistion of Olaf Kolzig from the free agent market. His extension seems to quash those rumours as it looks like the Lightning may tandem their goaltending approach for the coming season. This could very well curb the numbers for either goalie in the coming year, but Smith's extension does give him two more years than Kolzig, for those looking further ahead.

Smith finished last season with 15 wins, 3 shutouts and an assist for 37 points in the Sherpa's pool scoring. That put him 214th in the league. Of course, with omissions and a full season in Tampa, you may want to adjust those numbers accordingly for the coming year.
