The San Jose Sharks have re-signed one of their young defensemen to increase their already deep talent pool on the blueline. Christian Ehrhoff signed a 3-year, $9.3 million deal on Wednesday. The Sharks now have some decisions to make, as they won't be able to keep all seven defensemen on the update below happy with the amount of ice-time they will be getting.| Forwards | Defense | Goaltenders |
| Joe Thornton | Rob Blake | Evgeni Nabokov |
| Milan Michalek | Dan Boyle | Brian Boucher |
| Patrick Marleau | Christian Ehrhoff | |
| Joe Pavelski | Marc-Eduoard Vlasic | |
| Jonathan Cheechoo | Kyle McLaren | |
| Jeremy Roenick | Doug Murray | |
| Mike Grier | Brad Lukowich | |
| Torrey Mitchell | ||
| Devin Setoguchi | ||
| Jody Shelley |
The money isn't getting any easier for the Sharks either. The Sharks have 19 players signed on at a salary cap hit of $54.5 million, where seven of those players are defensemen at a hit of $20.5 million. The Sharks will likely need four more players, so something will have to change. The name floating around the rumour mill the most... Kyle McLaren.
