Bertuzzi Comes to Calgary

The Flames made a pretty big splash on the free agent market on Monday, signing forward Todd Bertuzzi to a 1-year deal, no financial terms were disclosed. Bertuzzi, 33, had his 2-year deal with Anaheim bought out before the last year of the deal was supposed to commence, making him an unrestricted free agent.

Bertuzzi played in 68 games with the Ducks last season, scoring 14 goals and adding 26 assists. He'll be reunited with former coach in Vancouver, Mike Keenan, who could be a driving factor in his arrival in Calgary.

The addition of Bertuzzi could not have come at much cost for the Flames, they were already sitting at 20 players for $53.8 million against the cap. This should be the last big signing for the team, unless they have decided to move a player or two for more acquisitions.

Update (11:47 AM): TSN is reporting that the deal is worth $1.95 million for the one year. This will bring the team's salary cap hit for 21 players to $55.7 million, which leaves the team with approximately $1 million left for two players.
