The Atlanta Thrashers finally took a kick at the can on Wednesday. They signed free agent defenseman, Ron Hainsey, to a 5-year, $22.5 million deal, which takes them one step closer to the salary cap floor of $40.7 million.Hainsey, 27, is set to make $4.5 million per season with the Thrashers after a lacklustre season with the Blue Jackets, where he scored 8 goals and added 24 assists. The Thrashers put Hainsey at the top of his payscale, more or less for the reason that the team doesn't have a lot of payroll spread around at the moment. The addition of Hainsey brings the team's active skaters to 18 and they only have $31.7 million committed to the cap. That's $9 million less than the floor set out by the CBA. The team still has to sign goaltender, Kari Lehtonen, to a new deal, but it isn't likely going to be a monster deal, although, it could be quite large to fill the gap.
