The Pittsburgh Penguins didn't pull any new fish out of the pond yet today, but they made sure one of their big names won't head out to sea any time soon. Evgeni Malkin signed a 5-year contract extension, which will start after this coming season. It is understood that Malkin will be making in the same neighbourhood as teammate, Sidney Crosby, at a salary cap hit of $8.7 million. This should allow the team to be a little more flexible in the coming seasons to make sure they stay competitive in the Eastern Conference.
This deal doesn't affect any numbers for this season at all.
