The Ottawa Senators beefed up their blueline with a little more veteran help with the signing of Jason Smith to a 2-year deal, financial terms not disclosed. Smith, 34, finished last season with the Philadelphia Flyers, scoring a goal and adding 9 assists, which makes him a pretty poor candidate for a pool defenseman. He does bring more stability to the back-end of the team, which may improve Martin Gerber's numbers, but there is no certainty that Smith's offense will be improved.
Smith's career high in points is only 20, but if you have penalty minutes and plus/minus in your pool, he could qualify as a good man to have on your team.
